I did not understand this wordings and could not translate it this way, how to do so properly?

“David thinks that there should be twice as many sandwiches as there are pastries”

That means to me that 2S = P (Two Sandwiches for every Pastries)?

This is a common source of confusion. If there are $8$ pastries, and they say that there are twice as many sandwiches as there are pastries, then that means there will be $16$ sandwiches. And the algebraic translation ends up being: $S = 2P$.
