    Hi,
I think this exercise is wrong both here and in the book.
    The result in my opinion is 54 (36 Republicans + 18 Democrats; 36/54 = 2/3; R = D + 18).

      Hi Nico,

We can test this by plugging in your answer. If there are 54 senate members this year consisting of 36 Republicans and 18 Democrats, then last year there were 38 Republicans (2 more than this year) and 16 Democrats, because the total number of senators is the same in both years. However, in this case we do not satisfy the condition that last year there were 20 more Republican members than Democrat members, 38 is 22 more than 16.
